My biggest challenge is to relax my style, each time I try I seem to start focusing on part of the painting and fuss over the area to define the painting. Then I end up doing that to the whole painting. If I try to relax my style it looks "messy" to me, but I look at other artist works and think it looks fantastic. Is there a way to relax your style, and be happy with the result?

In order to learn, I copy recipes (Ina Garten, for example); makeup tutorials (Sugar Puff n Fluff) and even how to unclog/clean my dishwasher. The exchange of information on youtube is FANTASTIC.

Everywhere, galleries, online and dealers ALL say have one unique style to be recognizable otherwise they're not interested as no sales. Seems to be holding true to this "myth." I don't agree with it but there you go.

Morning Katie, watch all your vids....thank you, I've learnt a lot from you. Been painting 5 months and there's still one thing I just can't get right....how to load a fan brush! Really? They always talk about you should've your own style as an artist to be recognized!

Definitely not! You can become successful at anything without needing to go to school, but it sure is helpful to reach a larger relationship with people with the same interests. Think of it as a community. With enough books you read and enough practice, you can definitely create great art.

do you put paint on your brush EVER? Have you actually painted a picture on camera where people can see you actually painting? Every clip that I have played not one of them do you have paint on your brush, anyone can actually see no paint going on the canvas!!

it is pretty, but there was NO paint on your brush when you made that swipe in a 3 second video..

SO many people say that online, huh! And so many people promote so many rules. I just paint what I love, the way I love and ignore all of those people. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm having a blast doing it wrong, if so, haha :)

While watching your video, I learned what I'm missing most: patience amongst the other things. Bridal bouquet painting is amazing. Those colours, shapes and brush strokes are lovely!

Useless. Nothing about gesso, mediums, varnishes, or materials. Strictly for children.

Girl SOMETHING has been regularly spitting water-based paint when I go in my bag for MONTHS. I ASSUMED since it was water based it would seal up and fix itself. That has not been the case

Thank you for sharing. so helpful for a self-learner. I have a question about tip 4, to focus on the value and intensity of color. I couldn't understand what it meant (I'm not English speaker). Do you mean that even if it's a landscape at a certain distance, still we need to create an edge for it?

Chronic illness has taken my strength, energy and concentration over these past months and have not been able to continue with the lessons. At present am condensing my art supplies and hopefully will be back to doing what I can very soon. Christine
